In Prisons
Prisoners are assessed for interventions according to their sentence plan and, if there is evidence of risk to the public being reduced, will in most cases transfer to category āCā training prisons before release where they will receive resettlement support to help them return to the community without reoffending. Some prisoners are serving life sentences and may never be released. More information about categories of prison can be found on the DirectGov website. HMP Hull is a local prison which contains a large proportion of men on remand waiting for conviction and sentence. Immediately following sentence, convicted prisoners are returned to HMP Hull where they are assessed before generally being moved to other prisons. Those offenders sentenced to short periods of custody and those who require access to the interventions specifically available at this establishment may remain within HMP Hull to serve their sentence. HMP Everthorpe and HMP Wolds are male category āCā training prisons where specific work and interventions, designed to help the offender lead a law abiding lifestyle upon release, can be delivered. Prisoners remain within these establishments until released or until moved to another prison either as a result of re-categorisation or the need to undergo a specific intervention available elsewhere. A number of prisoners serving life sentences who have progressed through the system and who are now being considered for release are also located within these two establishments. HMP Full Sutton is a male high security prison, housing category A and category B prisoners, including some of the most serious offenders from across the country. They are generally serving long sentences and seen as posing too many risks to be accommodated within prisons of less security.
